{"id":11,"date":"2013-11-19T08:14:12","date_gmt":"2013-11-19T13:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www-sahs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/aice\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2024-12-02T14:01:20","modified_gmt":"2024-12-02T19:01:20","slug":"exams","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www-sahs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/aice\/exams\/","title":{"rendered":"Exam Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www-sahs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/aice\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2013\/11\/aice-yellow-jacket.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www-sahs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/aice\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2013\/11\/aice-yellow-jacket.png\" alt=\"aice yellow jacket\" width=\"147\" height=\"126\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: medium;color: #800000\"><strong>The Cambridge AICE Program<br \/>\nat St. Augustine High School<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #400000;font-family: Arial;font-size: medium\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Arial\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small\">Cambridge International Fellowship Centre<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www-sahs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/aice\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/June-2024-AICE-Exam-Student-Schedule9.xlsx\">June 2024 AICE Exam Student Schedule<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www-sahs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/aice\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/12\/Exam-Letter-June-2024.doc\">Exam Letter June 2024<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">\u00a0 For those of you who have not been through the Cambridge exam sessions before (and a refresher for those who have), I will come into the AICE English classrooms with the following information:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong><u>Individual Statement of Entry<\/u><\/strong> &#8211; each student will receive this statement, indicating exactly what exams I have \u201centered\u201d them to take with the dates and either \u201cAM\u201d or \u201cPM\u201d for each one.\u00a0 I will ask students to review the information I\u2019ve entered for them and verify that it is correct, plus put the exam dates\/times into their phone, planner, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Remember that each subject exam will involve more than one \u201cPaper\u201d \u2013 meaning that there will be <em><u>2+ times that each subject will appear on the exam schedule<\/u><\/em> (i.e., Paper 1, Paper 2, etc.). So students need to make sure to <em><u>add EACH PAPER to their calendar<\/u><\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">The exact exam times &amp; locations will be finalized after I receive corrections and any re-take orders.\u00a0 This is also when I will allow for any students who have overlapping exams on a given morning or afternoon.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong><u>The exam dates are determined by Cambridge and CANNOT BE CHANGED.<\/u><\/strong><u> <\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">There are <strong><u>NO MAKE-UP exam dates<\/u><\/strong>\u2026which is why I\u2019m sending it out now. \u00a0Please make sure to consult this schedule when making summer vacation plans, College Orientation plans, etc.\u00a0Students MUST \u201csit for\u201d (TAKE) the Cambridge Exam associated with their AICE course in order to complete the course!!\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Students are required to take the Cambridge exam that corresponds with their AICE level courses.\u00a0 This is how they \u201ccomplete\u201d a Cambridge course.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">An \u201cExam Letter\u201d will also be included at that time which <u>parents must <\/u><strong><u>READ<\/u><\/strong><u>, SIGN AND RETURN to me<\/u>.\u00a0 This letter clarifies the Cambridge \u201crules\u201d about exams and will also have a \u201cre-take\u201d order section at the bottom of the letter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">If there is ever a question about when\/where an exam is taking place \u2013 <strong><u>the AICE Exam schedule will be posted to the AICE Website (website address below my signature)<\/u><\/strong>, so students and parents can always access it there.\u00a0 But I will give students a hard copy of the preliminary exam schedule, as well as a FINAL version of the exam schedule. But remember, the <strong><u>DATES &amp; TIMES (AM or PM) WILL NOT CHANGE!!! <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">I\u2019ll send more information in an email in January after the Statements of Entry are distributed &amp; let parents know what I discussed with students re: Cambridge rules, procedures for exams, locations, etc., but please let me know if there are any questions on this info. at this time, ok?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">For those of you unfamiliar with reading an AICE Exam schedule \u2013 here are a couple of tips:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Students enrolled in AICE level courses will take exams associated with that course.\u00a0 <b>AS <\/b>Level courses are the first year of that subject (i.e. AICE English Lit. 1, or AICE English Language 1).\u00a0 <b>AL<\/b> (A Level) courses typically show up on the student\u2019s schedule as a level \u201c2\u201d course (i.e., AICE English Literature 2) because an A Level course is the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> year of study in the same subject<em>.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><b>ALL\u00a0<\/b>AICE exams have more than one \u201c<i>Paper<\/i>\u201d \u2013 or \u201ctest\u201d &#8211; \u00a0belonging to that subject.\u00a0 So please make sure you are finding <i>ALL of the Papers associated with each subject\/course<\/i>.\u00a0 If there is a question about this for a specific subject \u2013 students should ask their teachers what Papers they will be taking so that they can find all of the dates associated.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Students should plan to <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong><em><u>arrive AT THE TESTING LOCATION<\/u><\/em> <u>at least 15 minutes PRIOR to the start time indicated on the Exam Schedule<\/u><\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">with their ID and <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><em><u>NO BACKPACKS, PURSES AND CELL PHONES<\/u><\/em><\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Please note that <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><u>morning exams <\/u><u>START<\/u><u> at 8:45<\/u><\/span><\/strong>, so students will need to arrange for rides in order to get to school with enough time to put backpacks away and check in at the testing location by no later than 8:30am.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">NOTE!!<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Any course for which there is a Cambridge Exam in the Spring 2022 Exam session, will NOT have a final exam.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong><u>Taking the Cambridge Exam is in lieu of their final \u2013 so IT IS REQUIRED!!!<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">AICE students who do not attend all Papers for each exam will:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong>1)\u00a0<\/strong>Be required to pay for the exam<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong>2)\u00a0<\/strong>Be required to arrange to take an alternate final exam with their teacher<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong>3)<\/strong>\u00a0Have their 2<sup>nd<\/sup> semester grade re-calculated to include the results of that alternate final exam<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong>4)<\/strong>\u00a0Not be able to use that course when calculating completion of\u00a0all of the GRADUATION requirements under the AICE curriculum Rules<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\"><strong>5)\u00a0<\/strong>Not get their diploma until they have paid for the exam, and it is determined whether or not they meet graduation requirements<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">And as always \u2013 please let me know if you have any questions \u2013 and study hard!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Dawn Eakins<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">Cambridge AICE Guidance Counselor<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">St. Augustine High School<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size: 10pt\">904-547-8511<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 90%\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"10\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\" valign=\"top\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana;font-size: small\">Dear Parents,<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\">There are 2 AICE Exam sessions each year and it seems that I run into problems with &#8220;Invigilators&#8221; (UK Term for &#8220;Proctor&#8221; or &#8220;Administrator&#8221;) each time. So I wondered if there might be some parents who would be interested &amp; willing to train to be a Cambridge Exam Invigilator?<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\">Training involves simply reviewing a power point and being aware of the basic &#8220;rules&#8221; of &#8220;invigilation&#8221;. It&#8217;s very easy once you&#8217;ve helped out in an exam session at least once or twice.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\">Obviously, parents couldn&#8217;t be an invigilator during an exam that their child is taking &#8211; but we can work around that.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\">Please let me know if anyone is interested and\/or available and I can send out the power point via e-mail.
